Cold Drawn Stainless Steel Shapes
Keystone Profiles has extensive experience cold drawing shapes and managing mechanical properties of Stainless-Steel grades. Our cold drawn stainless steel shapes can range from coiled rod in bar sizes under 1” diameter to meet your customers' unique demands. Common grades of stainless suitable for cold drawing for a variety of applications include 300 and 400 series stainless grades.
Stainless Steel
A family of related corrosion-resistant alloys. Stainless Steel contains 12-20 % chromium which gives it excellent resistance to stain or rust. The Chromium forms a protective clear oxide layer which ensures the corrosion resistance is consistent even when fabricated. The materials corrosion resistance will be maintained even if the surface is cut or damaged.
Stainless steels are identified by a system of numbers:
- 300 series stainless contains chromium and nickel
- 302
- 303
- 304
- 304L
- 316
- 316L
- 400 series stainless contains chromium
- 403
- 405
- 410
- 416
- 420
Manufacturing stainless steel involves seven processes:
- Melting and Casting
- Forming
- Heat treating
- Descaling
- Cutting
- Finishing
- Fabrication
Important advantages of Stainless Steel over mild carbon steel can include:
- Corrosion Resistance
- Cryogenic Toughness
- Work Hardening Rate
- Ductility
- Strength and Hardness
- Attractive Appearance
- Lower Maintenance
